Below are details of the awards and prizes presented by the MGS and also some awarded by other geotechnical bodies that might be of interest to our members.

University of Birmingham Geotechnical Engineering MSc Awards
There are two awards made to students on the University of Birmingham MSC Geotechnical Engineering course; Best Overall Performance Award and Best Project Award.
The Best Overall Performance Award is presented to the student with the best performance throughout the academic year, taking course work, project work and exam performance in to account.
The Best Project Award looks at the students performance in their end of year dissertation and is awarded to the student who submits the best overall project dissertation
A certificate and prize money of £500 are awarded for each annually. Details of past winners can be found here
Regional Competition to Attend the Annual European or International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference
Synopses of 500 words are invited from local young geotechnical engineers (<35 years) to be submitted by Friday 26th February 2016 (extended deadline) to the MGS Honorary Secretary. The successful candidate will need to be (or become) a BGA member and will be put forward with other regional candidates to the BGA to be considered for a sponsored delegate place to the European or International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference (Date and location yet to be ammounced for this year). Attendance at the conference requires ISSMGE membership (as an adjunct of BGA membership), the submission of a 2000 word paper and a 15 minute presentation of the paper at the conference. The BGA will pay the delegate fees, accomodation costs and reasonable travel expenses for the successful candidate to attend the conference.

BGA 43rd Cooling Prize Competition
Papers of less than 2000 words are invited to be submitted by 24th January 2012 to the BGA. Entrants should be under 30 years of age on 31st Dec 2012. Prizes include a cheque for £200, BGA sponsorship to the European or International Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference, publication for the winning paper and more.
